We didn't have any big trips planned this summer thanks to the new van, but that's ok because we seem to keep busy anyway. I have absolutely no idea where the month of July went. But, since summer is almost over, we wanted to get in another trip. While the temperatures dipped to the high 90s this past week (a reprieve from the 103+ of the previous 3 weeks), we would have liked to go camping, but Matilda has been unwell lately. Luckily it looks like she's on the mend, but there was no scenario in which we felt comfortable going camping.
Instead, we decided to take a little day trip to The Science Mill. It's a hands-on science museum for older kids in Johnson city, about 1.5 hours east of Austin. It's a nice drive and we'd heard so many good things about it. It didn't disappoint! the coolest activity of the day by far was the "mind ball" game. Two people sat on opposite ends of a table with a brain wave scanning band strapped to their heads and tried to see who could move the little ball into their opponent's goal with their mind. Very cool!
Another fun thing (for me) this weekend was finally cutting Johan's hair. I told him he could let it grow all summer if he wanted but it would be cut for school. The photo below doesn't do it justice at all. The kid has "Cameron hair" (i.e. super-thick and bushy). He enjoyed making it stand on end making him look like like a young Einstein. I think it got a bit too hot for him though, because when I suggested cutting it one day, he readily agreed, and I grabbed the scissors before he could change his mind. (no way a trimmer was going to get through that mane!)
